My wedding photography style is a mix of informal documentary coverage and relaxed and fun portraits, and Hyde Bank Farm has lots of scope for this. Hyde Bank has numerous rooms and plenty of outdoor space for photos during the wedding reception, and the stone barn ceremony room has lots of charm and is a great space for exchanging vows. I loved being able to capture some cute wedding photos of the couple even though the weather stopped us from exploring too much of the area around Hyde Bank Farm.

Being a Manchester wedding photographer, I was well aware of Hyde Bank Farm and had visited the venue before, but this was my first wedding there.

Hyde Bank Farm Weddings

Hyde Bank Farm is a great wedding venue if you are looking for somewhere beautiful near Stockport or Manchester. It has a collection of picturesque old buildings including the Ann Hyde Suite, which are all well maintained and there is lots of room indoors if it rains. There are also stunning grounds for you and your guests to enjoy on your wedding day.

There is some lovely countryside to explore as well as some bridges to pose on and under. Or, if you want something really different there is an industrial estate nearby (but out of sight).

The staff are lovely and took the time to show us around and chat when we went to scout the venue. I don’t normally scout venues but my 2nd really wanted to so we took a trip out together. They made us welcome, gave us a tour and could not have been more helpful.

Sarah & Joseph

I arranged a phone consultation to talk to Sarah and Joseph about what they wanted from their Hyde Bank Farm wedding photography. I always keep in communication with my couples to make sure they get exactly the photos they want.

When I called Sarah for our pre-wedding checkup, she was really chilled about her wedding day and very easy to chat to. She did tell me she wanted both her and Joseph’s prep covering. We arranged for my second to cover him and I was going to work with Sarah and her ladies. I was very excited when I learned she was going from her home to their Hyde Bank Farm wedding in a horse-drawn carriage.

The weather on their special day was wet and damp, but spirits were anything but. When I arrived at Sarah’s everyone was ready and there was a definite feeling of energy and activity. I got straight to work capturing the prep, all the while keeping an eye out for the horses.

My original plan had been to leave my car at Sarah’s and jog along/ride on the back of the carriage for extra shots. But unfortunately, I’d damaged my ankle so stuck with driving instead. So after capturing Sarah’s reveal to her dad (and his tears of joy) I hopped in my car and drove over to Hyde Bank Farm. I said a quick hi to Joseph and made sure all was well with my 2nd. Then we went out to await Sarah’s arrival.

Hyde Bank Farm

While waiting to photograph Sarah arriving at Hyde Bank Farm, one of my martial arts friends just happened to be walking by. It’s a small world at times. When she did arrive her bridesmaids, dad and the wedding coordinator all made sure her wedding dress stayed off the wet floor as you can see in the black and white photo below.

The ceremony was held in the Ann Hyde Suite, which is a listed building. It was lovely and the drinks reception and group shots went well after. The rain was pouring down at this point so after the drinks reception, we got the group shots done indoors. Fortunately, there is plenty of room downstairs for this.

The wedding breakfast was served out after this and it was delicious. Sarah had made sure my 2nd and I would be looked after on their big day. The speeches started and they went on for quite some time. It gave me some great chances to capture people’s happy laughter at the jokes and kind words. Some of the kids managed to slip away and play which I caught as well.

Of course, an essential part of the special day is the couple portraits, so after they had been liberally coated in confetti, I spirited them away for 10 minutes. Happily, with day-long coverage, we were able to find a window when it wasn’t raining.

Later on, there was the traditional cake cutting and first dance on their large dance floor. Then the energy really picked up with a live band who got all the wedding guests up dancing and singing.

Sarah is friends with another couple I have worked with, Rachel and Laura. It was great to catch up with them and briefly discuss their wedding day.

It was a lovely day.
