I’m Michael—a relaxed, experienced wedding photographer based in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. I cover the North West and work in Cheshire wedding venues quite often. My style is a fun mix of natural, candid shots and some minimally posed formal pictures.
It wasn’t my first time there. I have been to Statham Lodge many times for weddings and BIPP meetings. The BIPP is the British Institute of Professional Photographers, of whom I am a member. It’s fair to say that I know the place well for some Statham Lodge wedding photography.

Statham Lodge Hotel
Statham Lodge is a privately owned hotel and wedding venue located near the historic village of Lymm.
It is within easy reach of Warrington, Manchester, Liverpool and Chester. Statham Lodge is a classic Georgian manor house with 11 acres of beautifully maintained private grounds. The hotel is one of Cheshire’s leading destinations for weddings and civil ceremonies.
Statham Lodge Hotel has plenty of parking, great food and bar, and 37 individually designed bedrooms.

Rachael and Andy’s Statham Lodge Wedding
When Rachael and Andy booked, they wanted to meet up at the venue. I assured them I knew it well, but it was important to them, so we made the appointment and all met up there. We had a wander around the lodge and its grounds and made our plans for their wedding photography.
The Wedding Day
The day dawned nice and bright with the promise of a glorious day to come. Rachael was getting ready at her house, so that’s where I started that morning. I was met there by my assistant Danielle, who was once again accompanying me.
We went into the house to say hi, then started the wedding photography. I mainly focused on the candids while Danielle got shots of the details and dress.

All the prep went really well, and there was a lovely reveal at the end.

St Peters & St Michaels Church in Woolston
The wedding ceremony took place in a small church in Woolston. We took a few photos outside, then went into the church to talk to the vicar and find Andy.
Andy is a fireman, so he had, of course, arrived in a vintage Fire Engine. We got some shots as he talked to his friends and family. His watch had also come along with a modern fire engine to wish them well.
It wasn’t long before Rachael arrived in her own vintage car. This one a beautiful Zodiac.

The Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony was beautiful, with the vicar doing an excellent job. Afterwards, we all headed into the garden for a drinks reception and confetti photography. The weather was beautiful, and there was lots of happiness.

Statham Lodge Wedding Reception
Before they had to leave for work, Andy and Rachael got some photographs with Andy’s engine, and then the couple took the vintage fire engine to Statham Lodge. The rest of the wedding party travelled to the wedding venue in the Zodiac.

Danielle and I got over to Statham Lodge first and waited for the bride and groom to arrive.
We took a few photos with the fire engine and wedding car, and then they all headed in for the wedding breakfast. The room they were in for their meal is also used as the ceremony room at Statham Lodge Hotel.
There was even an impromptu tossing of the bouquet.

Statham Lodge Couple Portraits
We had a bit of time before the wedding meal, so when the guests went inside, I took the couple around the grounds for a few photographs. The weather was lovely, and the light was good.

Wedding Breakfast at Statham Lodge
After the portraits, they joined their bridesmaids, groomsmen, friends and family for food and speeches.

Evening Party
To keep their evening guests entertained, Rach and Andy had a magician and some gaming tables arranged in the bar area. Their guests and family loved this, and the magician did an amazing job. I don’t know if anyone was lucky on the roulette wheel, but it made for some fun photos.

Night Portraits and Sparkler Shots at Statham Lodge
When discussing their wedding photography requirements with me, they had mentioned they wanted a sparkler shot.
So we got their guests outside, and their groomsmen handed out the sparklers to the guests. All ready, Andy happily danced along between the sparklers, then remembered to go back for his wife so I could get the photograph they wanted. I always worry about fire and the wedding dress, but with so many firemen around, it felt very safe. Indeed, there is no risk to their big day.
Their guests then went inside again so I could photograph the couple on their own. Statham Lodge has some lovely fairy lights set up leading to a pagoda, which I knew I wanted to get a picture of.
I’d already set up my lights with Danielle, so we quickly got that shot and a few others. One of these was of them fastening a padlock to a railing, which a lot of couples do at this Cheshire venue.

Cake Cutting and First Dance
We went back in and it wasn’t long before the DJ called the couple up to cut the cake, and then they went straight into the first dance. It was one of those special moments, and all could feel the couple’s emotion.
Towards the end of the song, the bridesmaids were on the floor, quickly followed by friends and family.
This Statham Lodge wedding was a wedding day to remember, and I’ve kept in touch with the couple. They’ve even got a lovely small child now as well. I’m happy I was their wedding photographer. They even gave me a lovely review and told me how much they appreciated my photography.
