Grains Bar Wedding Photographer

Film photo of the bride and groom at Grains Bar

One of my good photography friends, Karen Berry, asked me to help her shoot this wedding at Grains Bar. If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll know I love being a Grains Bar wedding photographer so I of course jumped at the chance. I photograph weddings throughout the North West of England and North Wales and my style is a mix of laid back documentary and creative portraiture. Just recently, I’ve also started incorporating film photography into my work.

Grains Bar Hotel: A Hidden Gem for Wedding Photography

As a wedding photographer based in the North West, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless love stories in a variety of stunning venues. But few have captivated me quite like Grains Bar Hotel in Oldham. The exposed brick walls, vintage décor, and warm lighting create a cozy and inviting ambiance that’s perfect for capturing intimate moments. Morning Prep

On the day of the wedding I arrived nice and early and found Karen to say hi before getting started. Karen was covering Alex’s prep, so I waited outside for Daniel to arrive. I wanted to be there because I was told Alex had prepared a surprise for Daniel in the form of a boudoir album. I didn’t take a look but judging by Daniel’s reaction, they were good.

After spending some time with the groom, I headed back to the bride to get some shots of her dress being fastened.

Wedding Ceremony at Grains Bar Hotel

I waited upstairs in the ceremony room with the groom while Karen got the last few shots with Alex then photographed her coming up to the ceremony room.

I photographed the wedding ceremony from the front while Karen worked from the side and back of the room.

Confetti and Group shots

We headed straight outside after their wedding for the confetti shot and then Karen got on with the group shots while I captured some candids.

Couple portraits at Grains Bar Hotel

With all the group shots done, Karen and I took the couple away around the grounds to do some portraits. I used this opportunity to do a mix of digital and film photographs.

Wedding Breakfast and Speeches

We made sure the portraits were finished in time to get them back inside for the wedding breakfast. All the guests were seated and the couple announced into the room to much applause and cheering from their friends and family. The speeches themselves were fun and everyone there enjoyed them, even me.

Wedding Reception

After the wedding breakfast, some evening guests arrived and the couple took the time to make sure they spent time with all their friends. They even fount the opportunity to have a go on their bouncy castle.

Couple Portraits in the Evening

I always try to take the bride and groom for a second portrait session later in the day as the light will usually be better. There is a lovely field nearby, which as a Grains Bar wedding photographer I like to take my couples to. You can get a lovely sunset from there and the views are great.

Cake Cutting and The First Dance

One thing to be conscious of during couple portraits is that they can’t mess up the timings for the day. So, I always make sure to have the photos done and the couple back in plenty of time.

When we did get back, it was time for the cutting of the wedding cake. Then taking to the dance floor for their first dance. Alex and Daniel enjoyed a few minutes dancing together watched by their friends. The couple then invited everyone to join them for dancing.

Having the guests around the dance floor is a great way to get people to join in.

Final Portraits

To finish off the night, I took Alex and Daniel outside for a couple of portraits. They wanted these under the lights in the walkway which only come on at dusk.
