I am a Manchester-based wedding photographer who loves nothing more than capturing a couple’s happy day. I thought I was done for the year, but I was asked at the last minute to cover a wedding on December 23rd. That’s how I came to be a Fielden Hall wedding photographer.

Fielden Hall
Saying “I Do” in Quirky Charm: Fielden Hall, Todmorden
Nestled in the heart of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, lies Fielden Hall—a unique and characterful wedding venue that promises a day as individual as your love story. Step into a space steeped in history, where Victorian grandeur meets a modern, laid-back vibe, and prepare to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Intimate Elegance:
Fielden Hall isn’t your typical grand ballroom. With a capacity of up to 99 guests, it exudes a cosy charm, perfect for intimate gatherings where laughter and love intertwine. Imagine saying your vows bathed in sunlight streaming through the grand arched windows, the exposed brick walls adding a touch of rustic elegance.
DIY Dream:
Unleash your creativity at Fielden Hall. This blank canvas welcomes your personal touch. String fairy lights for a whimsical touch, drape colourful bunting for a festive vibe or let the exposed beams and wooden floorboards speak for themselves. The venue’s flexible layout allows you to design a celebration that reflects your unique style.
Beyond the Hall:
Step outside and let the beauty of nature embrace your celebration. Lush greenery surrounds the hall, offering a picturesque backdrop for photographs or a relaxed drinks reception. Centre Vale Park, just a stone’s throw away, provides endless possibilities for lawn games, romantic strolls, or even an outdoor ceremony under the Yorkshire sky.
Community Spirit:
Choosing Fielden Hall means supporting a local gem. This not-for-profit venue is run by the community, for the community. Your wedding becomes a celebration of love and togetherness.
So, if you’re dreaming of a wedding that’s anything but ordinary, where quirky charm meets heartfelt warmth, then look no further than Fielden Hall. This hidden gem awaits, ready to transform your “I dos” into a day brimming with laughter, love, and memories that will forever hold a special place in your hearts.
Chloe and Nick
I spoke with Chloe and Nick a few weeks before their wedding. Well, I spoke with Chloe. Nick was unfortunately unavailable, but Chloe had all the arrangements to hand. Nick is in the army, so his time can be in demand. There were a few changes to the day, so we went through those and planned out their Fielden Hall wedding photography. These changes are why the pre-wedding call is so important.
The Wedding Celebration
On arriving at Fielden Hall, I sought out Nick and introduced myself. He was easy to spot, being one of the few there in dress uniform. I took a few shots of the venue and then got ready for Chloe’s arrival.

She soon arrived with her father, who escorted her in, and then the ceremony began. It was a lovely celebration with a candle lighting ceremony part way through.

The Confetti Walk
Following the ceremony, the bride and groom accepted congratulations, and after their guests had passed them, they were handed confetti and headed outside to await the couple.
We had to set up under a marquee, thanks to the rain, but it was still a really fun experience for them.

Group Photo
Everyone headed back inside so that we could attempt a whole group photo out of the rain. In Fielden Hall, there is a balcony that overlooks the rest of the room. I positioned everyone so they were not obstructed by the decorations and lit the group, as it was a little dark inside.

The Wedding Ceremony
Due to the date, there was no registrar available for the wedding. By great happenstance, the caterer they had is also a registrar and celebrant. This meant that she was able to hold their marriage celebration at Fielden Hall, but to do the official bit, the plan had to change slightly. They were able to book into Todmorden Unitarian Church and there hold a small ceremony and sign the relevant forms.
Being as this wasn’t the usual ceremony and because the church was very dark, for the first time ever, I used lighting inside a church. I’ve got to say I am very pleased with the results.

Using flash in this way really allowed me to show off the spectacular architecture of the church and of course, get some stunning photos.
Couple Portraits
Whilst at the church, we had arranged to take some couple portraits.

And of course, we got a photo with their celebrant.

Wedding Reception
After their wedding ceremony, we all headed over to the Hare and Hounds for the wedding reception. There were some delicious nibbles provided for us all to enjoy.

Back at Fielden Hall
I stayed long enough to snaffle a few pigs in blankets and photograph the guests, then headed back to Fielden Hall to get detail shots.

Sparkler Photographs
Chloe and Nick had specifically requested sparkler photographs, so we set up to do them. When it comes to sparklers, I won’t organise them. They are great fun and look amazing, but they also carry a risk. I set up my lighting and let them enjoy themselves while I took the photos.

Cutting the Cake
Ceremonial swords are not made for cake-cutting. In fact, they’re not made for cutting anything, really. You might even say they are ceremonial… But they do have instructions for cleaning after cutting a cake. They decided to do the cake cut before their speeches and had a lot of fun doing so.

Speeches
To finish my time off as a Fielden Hall wedding photographer, all that was left was the speeches. These were funny and moving and enjoyed by all.

It was a lovely day with Chloe and Nick at Fielden Hall and I am very glad to have been a part of their special day.
