Heaton House Farm Wedding Venue

Mike Langley of Satin Pictures invited me to film this wedding. I have worked with him many times before. Before I get onto my Heaton House Farm wedding videography, here’s a bit about Heaton House Farm.

Heaton House Farm is a beautiful wedding venue located in the countryside on the Cheshire and Staffordshire border. The farm is family-owned and family-run, and it offers a truly unique and special setting for your wedding day.

For an indoor wedding, Heaton House Farm has two stunning options: the Oak Beamed Barn and Under the Pleats. The Oak Beamed Barn is a rustic and charming space with original sandstone walls and hand-carved oak beams. Under the Pleats is an elegant option with ivory décor and timeless drapes. Both spaces are perfect for intimate weddings of up to 120 guests.

In addition to its beautiful venues, Heaton House Farm offers a wide range of services to make your wedding day perfect.

Heaton House Farm Wedding Prep

When we arrived, the weather was a bit drizzly. So, knowing that it would pick up a bit later, we went inside rather than starting with establishing shots.

The wedding coordinator took us in to meet up with the bride, and after introducing ourselves, we started filming the preparation. Her lovely bridesmaids and flower girls surrounded Natasha, and the room was a swirl of activity. Luckily, the prep room was spacious and bright, so I could film without getting in anyone’s way.

Chris, the photographer, and I asked the ladies to take the wedding dress into an empty room where we could shoot it creatively. We carried on in this way during prep, and there were some touching moments, such as the reveal that Natasha did to her whole bridal party once her dress was on.

The groom had arrived by this point, so when we were finished with the ladies, we got some footage of him with his groomsmen, then set up in the ceremony room.

No readings were planned, so I only had to mic up the groom and the registrar.

Registrars don’t always allow you to mic them up, but this one was a star.

Heaton House Wedding Ceremony

For the ceremony, I had a safety cam on one side out the way, and I was manning another camera at the front while my son filmed from the back. My cameras are small, and I keep them out of the way as much as possible.

The groom waited anxiously but not too nervously at the front, and his patience was soon rewarded. The flower girls and bridesmaids entered, and after a brief pause, the bride entered.

She looked stunning on her stepfather’s arm, and the groom looked so pleased.

The ceremony was lively, and there was a few moments of laughter, especially when they competed to see who could hesitate more before saying “I do”.

After the ceremony, we got everyone outside for confetti in the front courtyard.

The Watergarden

As the weather was fairly dry, we headed into the water garden for portraits and footage of the couple. I left Aeron with my GoPro (great for outdoor smooth shots) while I focused on the couple.

The couple could then relax and see their guests briefly before Chris grabbed them for group shots.

Howard Wing

The outdoor fun had to be finished by 4 pm so the guests could be seated for entertainment and food. Once everyone was seated, Howard Wing started his performance with some fantastic singing. He then brought in the bridesmaids, followed by the groomsmen.

They didn’t get away with just walking in either; they danced in. Both the bridesmaids and groomsmen did a brilliant job. They were then joined by the newly married couple, who walked in to massive applause.

Once they were seated, Howard continued his act, even running off with the bride’s mother at one point. Everyone loved the performance, and before we knew it, it was time for the wedding breakfast.

The Wedding Breakfast at Heaton House Farm

There wasn’t much of a break for us as Howard Wing did sets throughout the meal, and the speeches were straight after.

I have been lucky with speeches this year, as I haven’t heard a bad one yet. Today was no exception. They were mostly short and fun, with some poignant moments.

I used three cameras for the speeches. I had a wide shot for the head table, a tighter shot for the speaker, and Aeron had the third camera and filmed the guests’ reactions to the speeches.

Cutting of the cake

The cake had already been set up near the head table, so after everyone had eaten, the bride and groom were brought over to cut the cake.

For both photo and video, I always find the best approach is just to get the couple into position so their friends and family can see, and I make sure I have a good shot. Then they just cut the cake. No posing with the knife and a cheesy grin. Just in the moment.

Afterwards, there was an unusual break between the cake cut and the first dance. This time allowed evening guests to arrive for the wedding reception and for us to bet more footage.

First Dance

Before we knew it, half-eight arrived, and it was time for the first dance. All the guests were gathered around the dancefloor to watch, but before the dance started, there was a surprise. It was the bride’s step-fathers birthday so the staff brought out a cake for him and we all sang happy birthday.

Then it was truly time for the dance. They danced and swayed for almost the entire song before they were joined on the dancefloor by nearly everyone, and the party was underway.

Around 9 pm an evening buffet was served, and not long after that, we could take the couple out for a final bit of filming and portraits.

Final portraits

The grass out back was wet, so the groom carried his bride to the beautiful, big tree where we shot what we needed to finish off the Heaton House Farm wedding videography.

I hope you enjoyed this wedding video as much as I enjoyed filming it. If you’d like to book me for your Heaton House Farm Wedding Videography, please contact me.
