Hobbit Hill Wedding Photographer

“You can blog our wedding, but not us” – That’s paraphrased, but essentially what I was told. And that is fair enough; not everyone wants to be all over the internet. So this will be a blog about being a wedding photographer at Hobbit Hill in Clitheroe in the Forest of Bowland. Most of my best shots I can’t show with you.

This was my first time as a Hobbit Hill wedding photographer, and I can tell you, I was excited about this one. I love photographing outdoorsy, natural weddings with fun, creative couples. It suits my approach to wedding photography, which is that what I do should capture your day without making it into a performance. I’m not strictly documentary and love working with couples to get some wow shots, as well as the more natural, candid moments.

Hobbit Hill Wedding Day

The wedding day actually started nearby in Blackburn at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh. Both bride and groom were getting ready there, so we were able to capture some of both of their prep.

When I finished the wedding prep, we headed over to Hobbit Hill to get some shots of their guests and to capture the bride arriving.

We took a look around the venue and planned with the videography team where we would all be during the ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony at Hobbit Hill

The couple had hoped for an outdoor ceremony, but unfortunately, the weather would not permit it. Instead, the ceremony room was prepared, and while the guests arrived and the groom greeted them, we took some time to get detailed shots and pictures of their harpist.

Everything in place; it was time for the bride to arrive.

The wedding ceremony was beautiful, the perfect mix of fun and love. The registrar was excellent, and there were a few tears shed.

Afterwards, we arranged everyone outside for confetti, then a bouquet toss quickly followed by many group shots. We then took the bride and groom around the grounds of Hobbit Hill for their wedding portraits. We spent some time in the woodland there before exploring the rest of the grounds.

I also took the opportunity while it wasn’t raining to get some drone shots of the couple and the venue. I recorded some videos as well to pass on to the videographers to use in their wedding video.

I’ve used the footage without the couple in to create the short video below.

Hobbit Hill Wedding Reception

After the formal wedding photography was finished, it was time for mingling and canapes. There was some time to fill between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, so we made sure we got a lot of guests interacting and having fun. I did sample a couple of canapes, and they were delicious.

The wedding breakfast and speeches went well. The best man was kind to the groom and didn’t tease him too much. The father of the bride’s speech was delivered really well and had us all hooked.

After the meal, there was the usual cutting of the cake and the first dance, but what was extra at this Hobbit Hill wedding was the band’s entrance. They came in playing from a back room and worked their way through the crowd to then set up just before the first dance.

Fire Dancers at Hobbit Hill

The final surprise which the couple had booked for their wedding was some fire dancers. This was my first time photographing them at a wedding, and I was really looking forward to it.

My plan here was to do a mixture of longer exposures so capture the movement of the flames and so fast shutter speed shots to freeze the action. I’m quite happy with what I got but I will find someone to practice on for future events.

I had wanted to get some drone shots of the action as well, but there was some slight rain at the time.
