I’m a relaxed, mainly documentary-style wedding photographer who loves to let the day play out as it comes. I don’t often visit new venues before the big day but for the Palace Hotel in Buxton, I made an exception.
Buxton itself is a beutiful, Derbyshire town famous for its water and industry.
Wedding Fayre at the Palace Hotel
I decided to visit the Palace hotel for 2 reasons. First was the wedding fayre that was taking place that day. I don’t get to many wedding fayres so I wanted to have a nosey.
Secondly, and more importantly. I’ve known the bride whose wedding I’ll be shooting at Palace Hotel for a long time now. In fact, she used to be one of my kung fu students. This was a great excuse to catch up with Saadia and Dale.
The Chatsworth Suite
The first room I looked at in the Palace Hotel was the Chatsworth suite. It has a good balance of neutral colours and ornate decorations to make it a beautiful, versatile room.
Along one side of the room are large windows which let in plenty of natural light. There is room for around 60 guests.

The Cavendish Suite
The Cavendish suite has a very similar decor to the Chatsworth suit and both rooms let on to each other. Again, the room is spacious and bright with lots of natural light and high ceilings.

Wedding Fayre in the Main Hall
The main hall is a lot bigger than the Cavendish Suite and can accommodate more guests.

This is where the invited suppliers were set up. I was there right at opening time so I had time to say hello to them all. They were all friendly and it was great to have a chat with them.

Saadia and Dale at The Palace Hotel
Not long after I’d had my first look round, Saadia and Dale turned up so we had a look at the rooms again. We made plans for their wedding here in June and they had a talk to the suppliers who were present.
After that, we headed out to have a look around at Buxton for further photo locations.

The Pavilion Gardens
For the groups shots, we plan on all going down to the Pavilion Gardens which is a beautiful place, even in January. Come June it will be even more stunning. We even played around with a few shots while we looked around.

I can’t wait to come back here in June.
Update * Saadia and Dale’s Palace Hotel wedding is now live! *
