St Georges Hall Wedding Photography

Wedding Photographer

I’m a Manchester-based wedding photographer who loves working with fun couples. This wedding in Liverpool was certainly one of those fun weddings. Read on to learn more about St Georges hall wedding photography.

The couple had booked me for my relaxed style and personable nature. This wedding was the ultimate laid-back wedding and suited me to a tea.

Shouldn’t that be to a tee? Well, the very first thing Janice asked me when I arrived at prep was, “would you like a brew”?

St Georges Hall Wedding

St George’s Hall Liverpool is a large wedding venue with seemingly hundreds of weddings at any time on the weekend. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but there are usually two or more happening.

Couples can choose from the Grand Jury Room, Rose Room, Concert Room and, of course, the Great Hall for their ceremony.

My couple had chosen the Grand Jury Room. Plenty to go at for a Liverpool wedding. Outside is the choice of the steps or the gardens for group shots. Read on about my St Georges Hall wedding photography.

Janice and Tony’s Wedding Day

Janice and Tony booked me for my informal approach to wedding photography because they loved my candid shots.

They booked a while ago, but fortunately, the dreaded C didn’t impact our plans for this one.

Liverpool Wedding Prep

Janice lived in a beautiful part of Liverpool where they filmed Bread.

I headed straight to hers and got a few shots of the view, had the brew as mentioned earlier, and then got directly to work. Janice was getting ready with her friend and mum in her lovely little house.

She wasn’t having bridesmaids, but her friend did the honours for her. Her mum was a great laugh and had come over from Ireland to Liverpool for the wedding.

Once I’d photographed the details and done lots of prep, Janice went outside to see her neighbours, and then I headed off to the city centre for the ceremony.

St George’s Hall Wedding Ceremony

I had to park in a nearby car park and walk around St George’s Hall for the ceremony. There are loads of works around the area, so what should have been a 2-minute walk was around 10.

I eventually reached St George’s Hall, found the correct room and introduced myself to the registrar. Then I shot Tony with his best man and the waiting guests.

When Janice was due to arrive, I waited outside, got the shots of the bride arriving at St Georges Hall, and then went upstairs to wait.

The ceremony was a lovely affair, and all went smoothly; they were now married.

It was soon time to head out for the confetti and group shots.

The Confetti Shot

Outside St George’s Hall, a red carpet is ready for the couples. There is then a stepped area with views over the city centre.

I got their friends and family to line up on either side of the carpet, and then, after a bit of fun, the bride and groom walked down the centre. I’d already made a mental note of where to stop so I didn’t get lost in the shoot and fall down the steps.

Group Shot Photos at St George’s Hall

Some parts of the day are amazing to shoot, but ask most wedding photographers which part of the day is the most challenging, and they’ll opt for the group photos.

I always plan for this and had helped the bride and groom choose a sensible number of groupings, and the steps outside St Georges Hall are a great location.

Also, there was no chance of guests sneaking off for a drink, which helped us quickly finish the group photographs.

Liverpool Couple Portraits

There are many great locations for wedding photographs in Liverpool. The bride and groom wanted to stay at St George’s Hall for their pictures. So Janice and Tony sent their guests to Doctor Duncan’s, and we got started.

We made the most of the gorgeous architecture around the building and were lucky that the weather was so lovely.

The grounds of the building are extensive enough that we could do this without bumping into another wedding photographer or wedding.

Janice and Tony were excellent in front of the camera and a pleasure to photograph. Just working in this area, we got a lovely variety of portraits.

We worked our way around St George’s Hall towards Doctor Duncan’s. We did the last few shots in the gardens at the side of St. George’s Hall. It was a busy day, so there were plenty of friendly comments from the general public.

Doctor Duncan’s Wedding Reception

Doctor Duncan’s is just across the road from St Georges Hall, and when we arrived there, the bride and groom wanted a photograph taken outside. Then, we joined their guests.

The venue had laid on some delicious snacks, and the drinks flowed. Couples only sometimes opt for bar food, but I’m glad when they do.

Doctor Duncan’s has unique tiles all over each room. These made for some exciting backdrops and various images different to St Georges Hall.

Leaf Wedding Reception

Their second wedding reception was at Leaf on Bold St. It’s not far from St Georges Hall, but I needed my equipment to hand, so I moved my car closer to Bold St.

Leaf Wedding Reception

The couple walking through Liverpool would have made for some great wedding photography. Janice and Tony wanted to take their wedding car, so we met there.

Leaf on Bold Street Liverpool is an eatery by day, but it can also transform into a cool Liverpool wedding spot.

I arrived first and got some room shots, and then the guests and the newly married couple arrived.

There was plenty of mingling and the band setting up.

The Wedding Band

The wedding band was Mojo Circus. I’d not heard them before, but they were really good, with plenty of energy that had the guests dancing. Liverpool is a world city, and guests at a Liverpool wedding always seem up for fun.

The Wedding Breakfast

There was no strict wedding breakfast for Janice and Tony.

We’d had snacks at Doctor Duncans, and the food at Leaf was a buffet meal. That said, it was one of the best buffets I’ve had this year.

Mingling Time

Before and after the meal, there was plenty of time for chatting and fun.

Leaf is a dark location, so I set up a few speedlights around the room and adjusted them as I moved around. This let me get some great shots of people having fun, dancing and playing with bubbles.

The First Dance

Janice and Tony took to the floor for their first dance as a married couple.

For the first half of the dance, it was just the two of them, then their friends joined them, and the dancing and partying continued into the evening.
