My wedding photography style is a mix of informal documentary coverage and relaxed and fun portraits, and Oddfellows on the Park has lots of scope for this. Oddfellows has numerous quirky rooms and plenty of outdoor space for photos during the wedding day, and the wedding ceremony room has large windows letting plenty of light in. Great for exchanging vows. I loved being able to capture some fun wedding photos of the couple, even though the weather stopped us from exploring too much of the area around Oddfellows on the Park.
Oddfellows on the Park is a lovely, totally unique venue in Bruntwood Park, Cheadle. Formerly it was Bruntwood Hall, and was restored to become Oddfellows. It’s not an odd venue, really, just charmingly different. There are lovely grounds to walk around, which are great for wedding photography. Pleasant outdoor areas to sit, drink and relax in. The food is superb, and the staff were accommodating. The park and quirky rooms here are perfect for wedding photography.

Cath and Ian’s Wedding at Oddfellows on the Park
The wedding day dawned with a mixed weather forecast. So I made plans accordingly and headed from my home in Stalybridge and headed over to Cheadle. The later start meant I also had a bit of time on a Saturday to spend with my kids. Not always possible when I photograph weddings.
Cath and Ian’s wedding was quite late in the day. Therefore, I had plenty of time to look around before heading up to meet Cath. The entire wedding was taking place at Oddfellows on the Park Hotel, with Cath making the most of the accommodation.
She was getting ready with her daughters in a long, narrow and quite dark room. Her daughters were relaxing on the bed, enjoying themselves while the makeup artist worked with Cath. It was so dark that I set up one of my lights to help the makeup artist, though admittedly, it helped me, too. The room had two levels, which gave me some variety, though the bridal suite may have been easier.

I worked with Cath and her daughters for a while, then went to catch up with Ian and do some wedding photography of his bridal party.

Then it was back to Cath for a few more shots and the reveal of her wedding dress to her dad.

The Wedding Ceremony
Dress on; it was down to the ceremony. It took me a few minutes to realise that I couldn’t get the geometry right because the room wasn’t straight. I should have expected that, really. All the odd angles do make it a striking room, though. There were plenty of laughs, smiles and even a few tears (Ian’s), but it was a lovely ceremony to witness.

After that, there were canapes and mulled wine as the reception drinks. These were served in the adjacent private bar before the wedding breakfast and speeches. These were short, sweet, full of love and fun, the best kind.

By the time the wedding breakfast was done, it was getting dark, so we all headed out for the group shots. Then I took Cath and Ian for some couples portraits.

We did these both inside and out on the darkened grounds, which made for some lovely moody shots.

The rest of the day went quickly, and not long after the first dance, I bade them farewell and all the best. They are a lovely couple. I loved being able to capture their wedding photography; it was a special day.

Oddfellows on the Park is the perfect setting if you want somewhere that can cater for a really posh bash or a more informal celebration.
Cath and Ian have a great group of friends who were all very welcoming and made my wedding photography very easy. Oddfellows on the Park is an excellent venue with a beautiful park as an enticing backdrop. I look forward to photographing more civil ceremonies here in the future.
