Hello, I’m a North West wedding photographer who specialising in making your big day more relaxing, at least when it comes to the photography. My style is a mix of on the wall documentary, and creative portraiture and the mix of those is up to you. I cover weddings across the North West including Manchester, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, The Lakes and North Wales.
Castlefield Rooms Nigerian Wedding Photography
The Castlefield Rooms are an excellent choice of venue for a Manchester city centre wedding. There are several rooms to choose from and there are so many places to use for your wedding photography. This is the first time I’ve done a small Nigerian wedding and it was absolutely lovely. Claudia and Jerome were the perfect couple to work with. Read on to learn more about their Castlefield wedding.
Claudia and Jerome
Jerome got in touch with me back in January to ask about how I could cover their wedding. We talked about my various packages and agreed that the most appropriate one for their needs was my part-day package. Jerome also later asked me if I could shoot some film alongside my normal work. I warned him that I was very rusty with using a film camera but I would be happy to give it a go. I even practiced shooting some film alongside my other weddings leading up to theirs, and found I really enjoy it. More about film later.
Morning Preparation
On the day we headed over to Claudia’s prep which was being held at her sister’s house. Due to the location we had to use a different postcode and take it from there. We may have nocked on the wrong house at first but the lovely lady who lived there pointed us in the right direction.
We said hello to Claudia and the other family who were there and soon got to work. It wasn’t long until we were joined by Katie Hayward Videography but we were able to work around each other.
At the Castlefield Rooms
We got the shots we needed then headed over to the Castlefield Rooms so we could get some photos of the room setup and photos of Jerome with his guests. I took the guys outside but we didn’t get long as Claudia arrived a little early. It is good to have an organised bride though.
Castlefield Rooms Wedding Ceremony
I managed to take the guys on a detour to avoid them seeing Claudia and got them up to the Brindley suite for the ceremony. All the guests were seated and Jerome was ready with his best man at the top of the aisle. Claudia was walked down the aisle by her father and the wedding got underway. As usual, it was a lovely ceremony and we managed to get the photos we wanted without getting in the way of Katie the videographer too much, hopefully.
It’s not every wedding where you get two confetti walks.
Confetti and Group shots
After the wedding ceremony we headed outside for the confetti shot and the group shots they wanted.
The First Couple Portraits
With those shots done, we took the couple out for the first portraits session. There is plenty of great architecture around the Castlefield Rooms which makes a perfect backdrop to your wedding photographs. I love the contrast between the old and new of Manchester.
The wedding Reception
Photos done we headed inside so that Claudia and Jerome could spend some time with their guests. We made sure to capture their interactions and also the lovely decor which they had won in a competition run by Boujie Box on Instagram.

Wedding Breakfast and Speeches
Once the couple had taken a look at the room they went out while their guests were seated. They were then announced in and everyone welcomed them and then enjoyed the speeches.
After the speeches we went for our meal while they had theirs. They had been kind enough to make sure we were fed as well and the food was delicious.
Cutting of the Cake and The First Dance
After the meal they wanted to go straight into cutting the cake but were unsure about doing a first dance but with a bit of encouragement they went for it, and were glad they did. It was a lovely dance and even better when all their friends joined them on the dance floor.
Second Portrait Session
Once all the partying was done their guests headed home we went for some more portraits around the Castlefield area.
Film Photography
OK, I said I’d get back to this. When I first started to show an interest in photography in the early 90’s, my dad took me to a camera shop and bought me a Minolta x-700 which I enjoyed using for many years. Unfortunately, I lost it in a house move so for one Christmas my dad got me another one to replace it. So I do have a background in film photography but over the years I used it less. Now, thanks to Jerome and Claudia’s request I’ve rediscovered the joy of film.
For this job I decided to buy my son his own film camera, an Olympus OM-2.

I’m not developing my own film yet so for developing and scanning I use Come Through Lab in Manchester.
