I’m a north-west wedding photographer but more importantly, a Brockholes wedding photographer. I cover weddings across the north west including Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire and beyond. My approach to wedding photography is a laid back mix of documentary coverage and creative portraits.
Brockholes Nature Reserve

Erika and Kallum
Erika and Kallum booked be for my shorter day coverage as they were doing things a little different. They wanted photographs taking around the Nature Reserve before their wedding celebration which was to be conducted my Kallum’s dad. I was then to cover the rest of their day until their first dance and ceilidh. They are an active couple who enjoy the outdoors. They even met through ultimate frisbee. So the choice of Brockholes for their wedding and wedding photography was the perfect one for them. Even if they couldn’t frow around a frisbee while there.
Matthew and Kristina
Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice and photographers can go awry. In this case it was an accident in my family which meant I wouldn’t be able to cover the whole wedding. Fortunately, for instances like this I have contingency plans. My back up for this wedding was the talented Matthew and Kristina who were able to step in and do an amazing job. I have worked with them lots of times now and having seen how they work and the brilliant job they do, so I was so happy they were free.
Once I was sure that Matthew and Kristina were available, I let Erika and Callum know the situation. They were very understanding and OK’d the replacement. They were happy once I’d sent them links to Matthew’s work. It was agreed that I’d head over to Brockholes with Matthew and Kristina and photograph the pre-wedding shoot, then leave them there to cover most of the day. I was able to join them again later in the evening to take additional photos of their wedding.
Of course, the cost of hiring Matthew and Kristina came out of my money, they shot on my SD cards which I took at the end of the night. They had a copy of their shots as well, both for back up and for their social media. The agreement is that they can use their shots after I have delivered to Erika and Callum.
Brockholes Pre-wedding Photography
Pre-wedding shoots are normally done well in advance of the wedding. Erika and Callum of course were doing things differently. They wanted to get in some Brockholes wedding photography in ahead of their marriage ceremony. We all met up in the car park then took a walk around the grounds of Brockholes.
The Wedding Ceremony
Once back from the walk around for the portraits, I had to head home and everyone else headed in for the wedding ceremony. Callum’s father was the celebrant and by all accounts he did a brilliant job. There was also readings from Callum’s sister and Erika’s mum.
Confetti and Group Photos
After the wedding ceremony, everyone headed outside for the confetti and group photos. They used the floating walkways for both of these.
Couple Portraits
There was a slight shuffle round in the order of the photos here in that everyone went into the room for the wedding breakfast. Sunset was before the end of the wedding breakfast so the couple were taken outside again when it went dark for some creative portraits. Unfortunately, there was not great sunset but the portraits were still beautiful.
The wedding speeches at Brockholes
Things had slightly overrun and so I was actually back for the end of the meal in time to catch the speeches along with my replacements. They were great speeches and well delivered.
Cutting of the Cake of Cheeses
There was an extra bit of a wedding reception after the speeches and everyone headed out of the room so it could be turned around ready for the dancing. Kristina and Matthew were outside taking pictures of the guests while I was shooting inside. I’m glad I was in there as Callum and Erika decided to cut their cake when we weren’t expecting it. These things happen and I was able to quickly get into position and photograph the fun they had cutting the cheese.
First dance and Ceilidh
Before long it was time for the bride and groom to take to the dance floor for their first dance at Brockholes Nature Reserve. They were announced on and took to the floor for a fantastic first dance. They had obviously been practicing.
After their first dance their guests joined them for a bit of fun on the dance floor then before long, the ceilidh started. This was so much fun and a great opportunity for photos.
